The ever-popular Leisha Hailey is familiar to us all for her role as Alice on The L Word. While Alice is known for her lively, off-center persona, Leisha herself is just about the epitome of cute in real life, in both looks and style. Her shy, natural manner lends her an unspoiled air that laden with a fresh charm. With each season, her character has gained popularity to the point where, now, Leisha is arguably the most popular actress from the show among audiences abroad. Incidentally, both Jamie Babbit, director of The L Word, and Rebecca Weinberg, the "Sex and the City" stylist, have listed Leisha as one of their own personal favorites.
She is also a highly acclaimed musician and currently plays guitar and sings for the rock band, < href="http://www.tokyowrestling.com/articles_eg/2009/02/electro_pop_duo_uh_huh_her_1.html">Uh Huh Her. The band’s music has been used on The L Word soundtrack, and cast members from the show have been known to show up at concerts to cheer Leisha on!
9. The Butchies
The lesbian feminist band, The Butchies, is known for its intelligent and down-to-earth queer-core sound. Vocalist Kaia Wilson's beguiling butch magic radiates more strongly from her charm than looks alone. The air about her is charged by the power of irresistible dimples and rambunctious twinkles in her eyes, which are only outdone by the sexy sweet appeal of her husky voice. Also, Kaia is all the more darling for her slightly corny edge - she can make anyone, anywhere feel at ease in under a heartbeat. Bassist Allison Martlew is also unabashedly boyish herself, and carries a magnetism highlighted by the beauty and sweetness of her face. Drummer Melissa York, known for her comical antics, rounds out this team - a "three-fer" in your search for the rockin' butch holy grail.
Here, we'd like to interrupt with a side note. As a matter of fact, Kaia is also known for her role in founding and playing in the queer punk band Team Dresch, a reigning force in the 1990s queer music scene. From 1996-2004, she ran the San Francisco-based record label and video art distributor, Mr. Lady Records, which she started with her with then-partner Tammy Rae Carland. The label housed a variety of artists, and many - like Le Tigre and Electrelane - are pillars to the dyke scene in the States. The Butchies have been on a hiatus since 2005, but Team Dresch has at times reunited for a number of live shows. That on-the-mark spontaneity is also part of Kaia's allure.
