Profile: Katherine Moennig
Born in 1977 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Katherine Moennig debuted in the 2000 short film, "The Ice People". Also in the same year, she became the subject of keen attention for her performance in the TV series, Young Americans, in the role of a young woman attending college as a man. In 2004, she made her break on The L Word in the role of Shane. Moennig appears in this year's psychological thriller, "Remorse", her first feature film.

Katherine Moennig made her first trip to Japan on June 22, and instantaneously discovered the enthusiasm that both the Japanese media and the Japanese public share for her (she has been heralded as Japanese women's top ranking "girl-crush"). Hardly a soul did not hear about the over 1000 women that rushed to Narita Airport to greet Moennig when she arrived. Moennig is known for her role playing the highly popular character Shane on the now globally popular American drama The L Word, which stylishly yet realistically depicts the lives of lesbians in Los Angeles. She has stolen the hearts of Japanese women through her portrayal of the seductive, lovable heartbreaker Shane - who switches women just as one would switch outfits. She's proven to be such a lady-killer that not only Japanese lesbians, but straight girls audibly sigh at the thought of giving themselves to Shane.

Upon the event of Moennig's visit, Tokyo Wrestling was there at Kate Moennig's press conference, arranged before a Premier Fan Conference between TW readers and Kate, and also conducted a special interview with Moennig - including a video message especially for her fans! Catch the low-down right here!

Katherine Moennig

Even though Katherine Moennig is still generally relatively unknown as an actress here in Japan, well over 100 persons representing the media - with TV cameras - packed the room at her press conference held on June 25th, 2008. Just a week before she was scheduled to go to Canada to film for Season 6 of The L Word, Moennig made a six-day trip to Japan where she was interviewed by over 60 media organizations - including Tokyo Wrestling - and endured a tough schedule rivaling that of Jennifer Beals (Bette on the same program) who had just flown to Japan earlier in February. However, she did find just a little time to go out into Tokyo on her own - to places like Shinjuku and Harajuku for shopping -and she enthused about her experiences meeting so many wonderful people and places during her time here. Word has it that she left very much a fan of Japan.

First, TW is proud to deliver the Kate Moennig Press Conference in full, featuring questions from all press present.

Kate Moennig

-Questions from the speaker-

--What do you think of Japan?

I think Japan is beautiful and the culture is amazing. I've never been here before, so it has been very educational. I'd definitely like to come back.

--When you arrived at Narita airport, over a thousand of fans were there to greet you. How did you feel seeing that?

After about 11 hours on an airplane, I was a bit shocked. The support was wonderful. I had no idea that would happen but it was very sweet.

--What has been your impression of fans in Japan?

Very respectful. Everyone I have met so far has been truly kind and very, very sweet.

--What foods are you eating now?

The sushi. I love sushi so I've had an overload of sushi thus far. The sushi in America is very different from the sushi here.

--Where have you been able to visit?

Some places include Harajuku, Meiji-Jingu Shrine…oh yeah, and Nakameguro and Ebisu.
