7.TW Interview (1)

In continuation following a visit from Jennifer Beals, who plays Bette on The L Word, earlier this year, TW is happy to deliver on its newest interview held in cooperation with the TV drama's broadcaster, Fox Life Japan. More information will be posted on The L Word web page, under "Line Up" on the following URL (www.foxlife.jp). Here, you can also find parts of our interview not given on the TW website! (Sorry, Japanese version only) Also, at the end of the interview, we will post a video message given by Kate for the fans that were not able to see her at her Premium Fan Conference.

--The L Word is very popular. We all love it here and you've gained a lot of fans in Japan, as you saw at Narita and even here at the conferences today too. Your character, Shane, is, without a doubt, the most popular character in Japan. What do you think makes her so appealing?

I think it's because she's not like many female characters shown on television. She has a lot of masculine characteristics and I'm sure that's very different.

--It looks like Shane has a sort of universal charm - something that transcends culture and language. Do you agree?

Sure. (laughs)

--What do you personally like the most about Shane?

I like the fact that she's a bit dangerous and quite risky. I always think that's very attractive. Also, she's unapologetic. I think those are strong qualities.

--What do you like the least?

The fact that she's so self-sabotaging. And she is terribly unfaithful to people. But mainly, I'd have to say her self-sabotaging.

--What would be your favorite season?

I would say the 5th Season. I enjoyed the 5th Season and the 1st Season.

--Because of the friendship?

Yes, I would say that the friendship is a large factor. It's very strong and important for understanding the dynamics of how these women work together. I thought that that focus got lost a little in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th seasons. But it did come back together in the 5th season, which is why I liked that one so much.

--Well, it was very fun to watch.

Thanks, it was fun to do.
