One of the hottest couples out of America right now has got to be DJ Samantha Ronson and Lindsay Lohan. As you may remember, only recently has same-sex marriage been legalized in the State of California. This latest development has ignited a new wave of speculation in tabloid and magazine media over whether or not the happy couple will be embarking on a life of wedded bliss.

The spark that set the fire took place during a live set performed by Samantha Ronson at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Hollywood. As she was DJ'ing, she's said to have taken a moment to stop the music and announce to the crowd, "By the end of this year, my love will be Mrs. Ronson!"

It's not clear whether the two are actually engaged, but apparently - despite the fact that neither has officially come out - it seems that the two have not been hiding their relationship this year.

In an interview in the October 2008 issue of the US women's fashion magazine, Marie Claire, Lohan responds to a question about Ronson, "People can think what they want. I'm really happy, and that's all that matters." This comment is not unlike what Sex and the City actress Cynthia Nixon had to say when word of her relationship with a woman was first making the mainstream. Though she now speaks very openly about her partner, when asked early on by the press, she had responded, "My private life is private. But at the same time, I have nothing to hide. So what I will say is that I am very happy."

In the same Marie Claire interview, Lohan explains the tattoos that she and her paramour share, "Samantha has a bunch of stars, so I got that (pointing to her hand). And she got this [heart]". She also openly comments on how she has been looking to buy a house "with someone", and just about anyone could guess who that someone is.

After three trips to in rehab and countless other highly publicized goings on in her life, Lohan has been basking in substantial calm and peace over the past several months - a change also well recognized within the US press. Her return to work, including the lead role in "Labor Pains" (2009) and a guest role in the hit TV program Ugly Betty (2006) is just another example of progress she has made, which many attribute to be evidence of the positive influence Ronson has on her life. However, when presented with that idea in her interview, Lohan squarely comments, "She's a great person and she's a great influence on the people around her. But I think that anything that's changed in my life is because of me. I've gone through it and I've had to deal with it and I've made the decision to move forward."

In the September 2008 issue of Harper's Bazaar, an interview with the Ronson siblings, included questions similarly posed to Samantha regarding her relationship with Lohan. In response, she curtly replied, "I’m not going to talk about Lindsay because she’s my friend, you know? She’s great." This may stand in contrast to the slightly more open commentary given by Lohan, but it is fair to assume that Ronson is protecting celebrity-status Lohan from the media as best she can, particularly considering Lohan's own father has recently made allegations that Ronson is using his daughter for press attention.

When asked about Lohan in the interview, Ronson clarifies, "She's also 22 years old. I think people forget that." She continues by expressing concern over inconsistency in media stories and says, "With the Internet the way it is, one second we're enemies, one second we're best friends, one second we're lovers, and then we're broken up."

Incidentally, in her own Myspace blog, Lindsey Lohan talks lovingly of her partner in references such as "a girl that means the world to me (its obvious who that is)".

In the same blog, Lohan also writes, " Samantha and I are looking for Dixie Cups. Does anyone remember them? They were given in school as a dessert. They are half vanilla & half chocolate. I have to have them before she gets back. Anyone that can help me find them, please please please, post it for me to see!!!!" She then ends her post with the song "Trouble" by Ray LaMontagne and writes, "This song is for sr... ILY"

The lyrics go:

The river of love between these two runs deep.
