2. Sew-Gay & Xkiller

LA-based designer Vanessa Craig, founder of the Sew Gay and Xkiller clothing lines, doesn't just make waves, she rides them. This up-and-coming provocateur first caught the attention of America's queer girls during her stint in the reality TV surf program Curl Girls (aired in 2007 on the American LGBT cable TV station, Logo). Not long after, both Craig and her designs became the subject of avid LGBT media coverage worldwide, appearing in The Advocate, Velvet Park, and Diva, among other sources.

The tank-top "Private Parts" seen here is part of Craig's military series,
available for sale through Tokyo Wrestling's online shop and the Sew Gay website.

Craig's skills don't stop at surfing and clothing design; this crafty vanguard is also an organizer and producer of events, including Tokyo Wrestling's own June 2007 launch party. In addition, she frequently contributes to TokyoWrestling LA scene reports.

Designs for the Sew Gay line are not only sweet and pop-inspired, they're also steeped in attitude and ironic wit. Catchy slogans harness the power of humor to turn homophobia on its head and crank up the pride.
