世界中に熱狂的なファンを持つカルトムービー『ヘドウィグ・アンド・アングリーインチ』の監督ジョン・キャメロン・ミッチェルの最新作として昨年日本でも公開された『ショートバス』。そのテーマソング『In The End』を含む5曲をサウンドトラックとして書き下ろし、自身の役でも映画に出演しているシンガーソングライター、スコット・マシューが、9/12に初の日本盤アルバムをリリースする。

自身の名を冠したこのアルバムは、聴く者をそっと包み込み慈しむような繊細なアコースティックサウンドで構成され、その優しく悲哀に満ちた歌声は『ショートバス』でも重要な役割を果たしている。多くのクィアが出演し、また、それぞれ分かち難い孤独を抱えつつも、人との繋がりを求めて葛藤するニューヨーカーたちを斬新な切り口と暖かな視線で描ききった同映画のメッセージそのものが表現されている。

"Shortbus" (2006), released last year in Japan, was written and directed by John Cameron Mitchell as a daring follow-up to his cult film/theater hit "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" (2001). Those who saw "Shortbus" will recognize both the face and voice of Scott Matthew, the American singer and songwriter who made musical magic on the film's highly-lauded soundtrack (5 songs including the title theme "In the End") and appeared as himself in an onscreen role. The tremendous news is - Matthew's first album will be released here in Japan on September 12th!

今回のアルバムは、サウンドトラックとして提供した5曲を新たにアレンジ＆レコーディングし、さらに人生における悲しみや孤独にフォーカスを絞った美しく慈悲深い楽曲7曲を加えた全12曲。

ゲイとしてもカミングアウトしている彼は、今回のアルバムに収録された曲について、恋人との別れの経験が大きく影響していることや、CDのアートワークを、別れた恋人本人であるキャメロン・デイリーに依頼したことなども明かしている。

Matthew's album features 12 songs - 5 newly arranged gems originally from the "Shortbus" soundtrack, along with 7 brand new and deeply touching musical explorations of sorrow and loneliness in life.

Matthew, an out New York-based artist, has let it be known that the music on his album was greatly influenced by his experience in a romantic break-up - and he asked his ex, Cameron Dailey, for the artwork shown on the album cover.
