The theater plans to show “Elephant”, “Paranoid Park” and “Milk” by the publicly out, famed American director. Just this past February, Van Sant’s latest release, “Milk” won two Oscar awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 81st Annual Academy Awards. The film captures the final 8 years in the life of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay candidate elected to public office. His earlier films, “Paranoid Park” and “Elephant” (winner of the 56th Annual Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d'Or and Best Director award), are also highly purposeful, true-to-life depictions of people and events in our time. In addition to the previous broadcast, new material will also be incorporated, including an interview with Gus Van Sant, director of the Academy-Award winning film "Milk", discussing gay rights and the situation surrounding Prop 8 in the United States. ●VOGUE HOMMES JAPAN Soon to hit the stands, the Spring/Summer issue of Vogue Hommes Japan takes a cutting look at "The Americans" -- a theme inspired by the country that has only just now regathered the world's attention with the election of President Barack Obama. And, just as it had in its last issue, Vogue Hommes Japan brings a wealth of queer news to the fore! Striking in its intensity, the cover for this season's issue is the work of openly gay designer Hedi Slimane -- formerly creative designer for Dior Homme, a favorite brand for many of the world's queer girls. This is not Slimane's first cover for the magazine; he also took charge for the premier issue released in September 2008 and, this time, he also delivers with over 30-pages of hot fashion shots laid out in an attention-grabbing spread. Slimane did the fashion shoot in his own favorite city--Los Angeles, and boldly styles it with rock and pop by incorporating traditional American motifs, like the Hollywood sign and the American Eagle, into his images. Also, out gay director Gus Van Sant is featured in the same issue in a story titled, "The Ability to Change America", along with an introduction to his latest film, "Milk". Just recently his film about Harvey Milk, the first openly gay candidate elected to public office, garnered two Academy Awards for lead actor Sean Penn and screenwriter Dustin Lance Black. Inspired by traditional American styles, New York designer Thom Browne has made his way into the industry limelight. One fashion shoot featuring his clothing is presented under the title of, “A Thom Browne Wedding: There are skirts for men, so why not weddings like this?” The photographs paint a picture of a wedding ceremony pairing a man in a tuxedo-style suit with another man in a tulle skirt, reminiscent of a wedding dress. 3月14日、15日に赤坂・OAGホールで開かれる「アジア映画ベストセレクション」にて、フィリピンのゲイ映画『マキシモは花ざかり』が上映予定。 As part of a Two Day Celebration of the Best Asian Films, the Philippine hit film "The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros" will be shown on March 14th at Akasaka's OAG Hall. フィリピン国内で大ヒットし、モントリオール映画祭最優秀新人監督賞、ロッテルダム映画祭NETPAC賞など、多くの映画祭で受賞歴多数。本作で劇映画デビューした新進監督アウレリス・ソリトは、日系フィリピン人ミチコ・ヤマモトの脚本のもと、スラム街をも魅力的な空間として描く。2007年の『アジアン・クイア・フィルム＆ビデオ・フェスティバル』 でも上映され大好評だったこの作品。この貴重な機会を絶対にお見逃しなく！！ Following its release in 2005, "The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros" has enjoyed tremendous success in the Philippines as well as around the world and been honored with numerous international awards including the Golden Zenith Award for Best Picture at the Montreal World Film Festival and the Netpac Jury Prize at the Rotterdam International Film Festival. Director Auraeus Solito's debut film explores life and love through the eyes of Maxi, a young boy living in the slums of Manila.
