星条旗のフェイスペイントが施されたインパクト大のこの表紙は、世界中のダイクから絶大な支持を得ているブランド、ディオール オムの元デザイナーでクィアでもあるエディ・スリマンによるもの。創刊号でも表紙を担当した彼だが、今回もファッションシューティングを30ページにも渡って掲載している豪華な1冊。今回は、自身のフェイバリット・シティであると語るLAで撮影したシリーズで、鷲やハリウッドサインなどの古典的なアメリカンモチーフと合わせてロックやポップカルチャーを思わせるスタイリングで魅せている。

また、同誌は、ゲイであることをカミングアウトしているガス・ヴァン・サント監督を「アメリカを”変える”才能」としてフィーチャーし、彼の最新作『ミルク』を紹介。同作品はアメリカで初めてゲイであることをカミングアウトし当選した議員ハーヴィー・ミルクの人生を描き、主演のショーン・ペンや脚本家のダスティン・ランス・ブラックが先日アカデミー賞を受賞したのも記憶に新しい。

アメリカンなトラッドスタイルにインスピレーションを受け、いまをときめくNYのデザイナー、トム・ブラウン。そんな彼の商品を使用したシューティングでは、「トム・ブラウン流ウェディング・スタイル~男のスカートがアリなら、こんな結婚式もアリじゃない？」と題して、タキシード風のスーツを着た男性と、ウェディングドレスを彷彿させるチュールのスカートを纏った男性との結婚写真の演出が粋。

Soon to hit the stands, the Spring/Summer issue of Vogue Hommes Japan takes a cutting look at "The Americans" -- a theme inspired by the country that has only just now regathered the world's attention with the election of President Barack Obama. And, just as it had in its last issue, Vogue Hommes Japan brings a wealth of queer news to the fore!

Striking in its intensity, the cover for this season's issue is the work of openly gay designer Hedi Slimane -- formerly creative designer for Dior Homme, a favorite brand for many of the world's queer girls. This is not Slimane's first cover for the magazine; he also took charge for the premier issue released in September 2008 and, this time, he also delivers with over 30-pages of hot fashion shots laid out in an attention-grabbing spread. Slimane did the fashion shoot in his own favorite city--Los Angeles, and boldly styles it with rock and pop by incorporating traditional American motifs, like the Hollywood sign and the American Eagle, into his images.

Also, out gay director Gus Van Sant is featured in the same issue in a story titled, "The Ability to Change America", along with an introduction to his latest film, "Milk".　Just recently his film about Harvey Milk, the first openly gay candidate elected to public office, garnered two Academy Awards for lead actor Sean Penn and screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.

Inspired by traditional American styles, New York designer Thom Browne has made his way into the industry limelight. One fashion shoot featuring his clothing is presented under the title of, “A Thom Browne Wedding: There are skirts for men, so why not weddings like this?” The photographs paint a picture of a wedding ceremony pairing a man in a tuxedo-style suit with another man in a tulle skirt, reminiscent of a wedding dress.
