全国でドキュメンタリー映画『ハーヴェイ・ミルク』が上映！ "The Times of Harvey Milk" in theaters across Japan!

映画『ミルク』の公開を記念し、ドキュメンタリー映画『ハーヴェイ・ミルク（原題：the Times of Harvey Milk）』が渋谷アップリンクXをはじめ、全国で上映予定。1984年に制作されたこの作品は、同年のアカデミー賞最優秀長編ドキュメンタリー賞をはじめ、映画賞を受賞し、現在でも世界各地で上映されている傑作。

監督は、ハリウッド映画のなかでゲイとレズビアンがどのように描写されてきたかをドキュメンタリーした『セルロイド・クローゼット（原題：Celluloid Closet）』（'95） などを制作したロバート・エプスタイン。

『ハーヴェイ・ミルク』 は、アメリカの社会状況、当時を知る人々の証言、また、自らをゲイと公言し政治家としてクィアの権利を獲得しようとする、彼自身の生きた姿を映し出している。

ガス・ヴァン・サント監督の『ミルク』と同様、ハーヴェイ・ミルクが私たちに示そうとしてくれたこと、また与えてくれたものをより感じさせてくれる作品となっている。

To celebrate the release of Gus Van Sant's "Milk" here in Japan, the documentary film "The Times of Harvey Milk" will be showing at Shibuya's Uplink X and other theaters across the country. This powerful masterpiece documenting the story of the inspirational American politician has won numerous awards, including an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature in 1984, and been received exuberantly at screenings around the world to this day.

"The Times of Harvey Milk" was directed by Robert Epstein, the same director who later went on to produce "The Celluloid Closet" (1995), a telling documentary on Hollywood's depictions of gays and lesbians in film. It brings to the big screen 1970s America and Harvey Milk himself, shown in documentary and newsreel footage, as well as the testimonies of those who knew the openly gay politician committed to the fight for gay rights. Much like director Gus Van Sant’s "Milk", this masterful film is a striking reminder of the importance of history, as well as a testimony to Harvey Milk's mission and the enduring impact he has made on our lives.

ハーヴェイ・ミルク

（1930-1978）米政治家、ゲイの権利活動家。米国で初めて自らゲイであることを公表し当選した市会議員（1977年、カリフォルニア州サンフランシスコ市）。1978年11月27日、同僚議員のダン・ホワイトにより、ジョージ・モスコーネ市長とともに同市庁舎内で射殺された。裁判でホワイトがわずか7年の禁固刑を宣告されたため、「ホワイト・ナイト」と呼ばれた暴動をサンフランシスコで同性愛者らが起こした。

Harvey Milk
(1930-1978) An American politician and gay rights activist. In 1977 he became the first openly gay candidate elected to public office. He served in the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Milk was assassinated along with Mayor George Moscone on November 27, 1978 by Dan White, another member of the Board of Supervisors. When word got out that Dan White was sentenced to only 7 years in prison, people took to the streets in what became known as the "White Night riots".
