To mark its official Japanese release, Tokyo Wrestling has decided to give away a DVD of Madonna's directorial debut film "Filth and Wisdom," along with a bandanna, to one lucky TW reader! (Limited to readers living in Japan only*.)

Film synopsis (excerpted from www.berlinale.de):

"A. K. is a philosopher (at least that's what he claims to be), a poet, and an authority on all aspects of life...Juliette dreams of being a Florence Nightingale of the developing world....Holly is a trained ballerina. Her big dream is to dance with the Royal Ballet.

These three distinctive personalities are at the centre of "Filth and Wisdom" -- a cinematic tale of everyday life about people who are obliged to take on jobs just to earn a living, but who live in hope of one day fulfilling their dreams. But the paths to one's goal are sometimes circuitous. And whether we take the path of wisdom or the path of filth, we will eventually arrive at the same enlightened place."

Japan's first and internationally known women-only event, Gold Finger, will be held on Friday, June 12 at Tokyo Salon, located on the basement level of international dining complex Las Chicas in Aoyama.　 The music is guaranteed to be HOT with DJs Anita-san, renowned girl unit Kilimanjaro, and Tokyo Wrestling's personal favorite Peli all spinning.

Tokyo Wrestling was there to check out Gold Finger at its new venue on May 8. It's great place to chat and chill with some edgy electro tunes and gets a big thumbs up from us!!

『ヘドウィグ・アンド・アングリーインチ』は、1997年よりオフ・ブロードウェイで上演されたロングランヒット・ミュージカルで、世界中に熱狂的なファンを持つカルト作品。2001年には映画化され、日本でも2004年に舞台で上演された。

映画とオリジナル・ミュージカルの主演/監督/脚本家を務めるのは、ゲイとしてカミングアウトしているジョン・キャメロン・ミッチェル。2006年には世界中で大きな話題を集めた映画『ショートバス』も監督としてリリースし、クィア映画の巨匠ともいわれている彼。カルト的作品なので、観ていない方ももう観た方も是非足を運んでみては！

In response to popular demand, the 2009 Bakuon Film Festival in Kichijoji will be showing "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" in special screenings.

The epic musical "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" began off-broadway in 1997 and grew to become a long-running production with a broad cult following. Its success spurred the making of the 2001 film of the same name, and the theater production was brought to Japan in 2004.

Openly gay artist John Cameron Mitchell wrote, directed and starred in both the theater and film productions of the musical. In 2006, he released his second movie "Shortbus", which cemented his reputation as a master in queer film. If you haven't yet seen Mitchell's first cult masterpiece, this is a perfect chance!
