ヴァギナ・モノローグス（原題：The Vagina Monologues）は、アメリカ人劇作家のイヴ・エンスラーの脚本によって構成されたモノローグ芝居。

200人を超える様々な年齢・人種・職種の女性たちにインタビューしたヴァギナ（女性器）についての記憶や思いを基にした作品で、1996年にニューヨークのオフ・ブロードウェイで上演されて以来、世界60ヶ国で上演されている。ユーモアと哀愁を交えて語られるセックス、出産、オーガズムなどおかしくも切ないエピソードの数々が感動を巻き起こす。

ウッディ・アレン監督の映画『マンハッタン』（’79）でレズビアン役を好演した大物女優のメリル・ストリープやLBGT人権活動家としても知られるウーピー・ゴールドバーグを筆頭に、2008年には、スタイリッシュ・レズビアンドラマ『Lの世界』でベット・ポーター役のジェニファー・ビールスも舞台を飾った。

今回の公演では、元祖オネエキャラと歯に衣着せぬ物言いでファッションジャーナリストとして活躍するピーコ氏のゲストトークショーなども必見。是非この機会をお見逃しなく！

The Vagina Monologues is a series of unforgettable stories skilfully scripted by American playwright Eve Ensler.

Based upon interviews Ensler conducted with over 200 women of varying ages and backgrounds, The Vagina Monologues gives voice to women’s reflections on their bodies. This moving collection of tales tinged with sorrow and humor about sex, childbirth, orgasm, and more began as an off-Broadway production in 1996 and has since been performed for audiences in over 60 countries.

Actresses who have taken the stage to perform in The Vagina Monologues include Meryl Streep, who appeared in the 1979 Woody Allen film “Manhattan” in a lesbian role; Whoopie Goldberg, recognized widely for her LGBT activism; and Jennifer Beals, known for her role as Bette Porter in the stylish lesbian drama The L Word.

The Tokyo run will feature special guest appearances by figures such as the outspoken fashion journalist Piko. The play will be performed in Japanese. Don't miss it!
