毎年世界中で恒例のセクシュアルマイノリティのお祭りこと、ゲイパレード。今年も関西では、当事者や支援者が地元の町を大勢で華やかに歩いてパレードする「関西レインボーパレード2009」が開催。

日常生活ではカミングアウトしているクィアがまだ少ないなか、パレードで堂々とマーチし、誰にとってもセクシュアルマイノリティが身近な存在であることや性の多様性をアピールしつつ、ストレートとクィアたちの理解とコミュニケーションを目的とするパレード。性的指向に関わらず、その違いを豊かなものとしてお互い認め合い尊重し、一緒に生きていこうという想いを、関西レインボーパレードの“レインボー”という言葉に込めている。

また、公式ミックス・アフターイベント「もっと！関パレ！」には、トークゲストにTWでもインタビューを行ったレズビアンをオープンにしているタレントの一ノ瀬文香さんやユース・ゲイ向けの友だちづくりイベント「ピアフレンズ」の代表・石川大我さんといった豪華メンバーも参加予定。行ける人は是非参加してみては！

Every year, all around the world, LGBT people looking for a bit of fun and the chance to make a collective statement take to the streets in celebration. Yes, we’re talking about pride parades and Japan, of course, is no exception. In recent years, pride marches have energized cities across the country and right now in Osaka, in fact, LGBTers and their supporters are gearing up for the next annual Kansai Rainbow Parade coming in October.

With many LGBT people in Japan still finding it difficult to be out in their day-to-day lives, the Kansai Rainbow Parade provides a unique opportunity for people to openly express themselves as they stroll en masse through downtown Osaka, highlighting the rich diversity of expression of both gender and sexuality that exists within the community. It is also a great place for developing channels of communication and bringing about mutual understanding among queer and non-queer people alike.

The "Rainbow" in the parade’s name symbolizes the hope that one day people representing every band of the sexuality/gender spectrum will be able to live together with respect and understanding.

And the festivities won’t stop there: following the parade, there will be a bang-up after-party going on till the wee hours, with appearances by such luminaries as out lesbian model Ayaka Ichinose and Taiga Ishikawa, director of the LGBT youth group Peer Friends. This definitely promises to be a great day out in Osaka and one that you do not want to miss!

The 2009 Kansai Queer Parade
●Date: Saturday, October 24
Participants start gathering at 1:00pm; Parade starts at 2:00pm
●Place: In front of the Goddess Statue in Nakanoshima Park, on the south of Osaka City Hall.(2-minute walk from Yodoyabashi Station M17 on the Subway Midosuji Line and Yodoyabashi Station on the Subway Midosuji Line)

Doors open at 7:00pm; Starts at 7:30pm
