Tokyo Wrestlingでは、Notesでもいち早く取り上げていた映画『フィリップ、きみを愛してる！』が3月13日（土）より新宿ピカデリー他、全国ロードショー決定！ 本作の基になったのは、懲役167年を科せられ、現在もテキサスの刑務所に収監されているIQ169の天才詐欺師のスティーヴン・ラッセルの人生を綴ったドキュメンタリー小説『Ⅰ Love You Phillip Morris』。劇中のエピソードは全て実話で、スティーヴンが獄中で恋に落ちたフィリップに“愛してる”と伝えるため、全人生を賭けて詐欺と脱獄を繰り返す姿がユーモアたっぷりに描かれる。

The movie “I Love You Phillip Morris” is set for release in Japan on March 13th, showing at Shinjuku Piccadilly and other theatres nationwide. The film is based on the real life events of Steven Jay Russell, a gay and genius con artist who currently is serving a 167-year sentence in a Texas prison. The movie humorously depicts how Steven escapes from prison multiple times and pull big-time cons just to be reunited with his cell mate, Phillip, and to tell him “I love you”. Two very unique actors star in this comedic and bittersweet love story; Jim Carey (Steven Jay Russell), and Ewan McGregor (Phillip Morris). What a great ‘couple’! The 10 AM Film Festival made its grand start on February 6th, and over the next year they will be offering a terrific selection of the best 50 foreign classic films from 1950-1970 at 25 theatres nationwide. Masterpiece classics include "Some Like It Hot" (1959), a film by Billy Wilder which long ago earned a respected place in the annals of queer history. When this film was first screened in the 1950's, the ending was regarded as an unusually positive take by Hollywood on the presence of gay people. Other interesting films from The 10 AM Film Festival include "Ben Hur" (1959) and "Laurence of Arabia" (1962), both which have long inspired talk of gay innuendo. On Saturday January 30, The Ritsumeikan University Institute of Human Sciences and Research Center Ars Vivendi will host the latest installment in the Learning Through Cinema series, "People and Society Today: Series 4. Children and Hope" featuring a screening of the 2001 film, "Hush!" by out Japanese director Ryosuke Hashiguchi. The Asian Queer Film Festival (AQFF) is Japan’s only film festival exclusively dedicated to uncovering and showcasing independent queer films from throughout Asia. Held for the first time in 2007, the festival was an instant hit, attracting diverse audiences with its remarkable mixed bag of 29 queer indie films. This biennial event makes its 2009 comeback Saturday, September 19th through Wednesday, September 23rd, presenting over 30 films from 10 Asian countries and regions including Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, India, Israel, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Thursday, September 17th marks the beginning of the sixth return of the popular fall event, the Latin Beat Film Festival. This year’s festival features films from Spain, America, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Cuba--with multiple award-winning notables, including one winner of six Goya Awards and another two-time Academy Award winner, as well as numerous films screened at Cannes and other prestigious international festivals. Of particular interest this year are the films “El Niño Pez” and “Pedro”; The former, set against an environment of social inequality, tells the intense love story of two girls whose awareness of the stark divide between rich and poor lead them to commit a crime, while the latter is a documentary on the life of Pedro Zamora, the courageous and openly gay AIDS activist and educator who died at the young age of 22. "Mentiras y Gordas" also incorporates queer elements in its bittersweet tale of young love, experimentation, and coming of age. The official Latin Beat Film Festival Party will be held on Friday, September 18th with special guests, top Djs, and dance performances to keep the evening's celebrations going.
