Renowned gender theorist and author Judith Halberstam will be giving a series of talks in Tokyo November 26-28. 第4回青森インターナショナルLGBTフィルムフェスティバルの特別企画 3では、北丸雄二氏の講演会「オバマ、宗教、ノーベル賞──LGBT眼鏡で見えてくるあなたの知らないアメリカ」を12月5日(土)に開催。 北丸氏は、1996年まで東京新聞/中日新聞のNY支局長を務め、現在はフリーランスの物書きとしてニューヨーク在住。国際時事問題から日本の社会・政治時評、文学評論、文芸創作などに携わっている国際的なジャーナリスト。 またゲイ小説の金字塔『フロントランナー』などの英米文学の翻訳や、08年にはジミー・カーター著『カーター、パレスチナを語る──アパルトヘイトではなく平和を』（晶文社、共訳）も出版した。さらにオフブロードウェイ・ミュージカル『ヘドウィグ・アンド・アングリー・インチ』や『アルターボーイズ』などの日本公演用翻訳脚本も手がけ、映画『RENT』や『ミルク』のパンフレットでも解説を執筆するなど、内外のLGBT事情やゲイカルチャーを紹介する第一人者でもある。 オバマ政権に変わり、LBGT問題も少しずつ改善され始めたアメリカ。そんな進化するアメリカの現状を、内外のLGBT事情に精通している北丸氏の視点から語ってもらえる貴重な講演を聞きに、是非青森まで足を運んでみては！

He has an extensive background in global current affairs and, as an international correspondent, contributes to the fields of literary review and Japanese political and social commentary. Kitamura’s 1990 translation of The Front Runner brought this seminal work of gay literature to Japanese audiences. In addition, he recently contributed to the joint Japanese translation of Jimmy Carter’s 2008 print release, Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid (published by Shobunsha). Moreover, not only has he been a force behind the translation of scripts for such Off Broadway hits as Hedwig & the Angry Inch and Altar Boyz, he was also selected to write commentary for Japanese booklets created to accompany the release of the films “Rent” and “Milk” in Japan. Kitamura has been at the frontlines of bringing queer culture -- both at home and abroad -- to a mass audience in Japan. Two years after his last solo exhibition in Tokyo, openly gay Dutch artist J.P. Hol, currently based in Milan and Amsterdam, will be making a return to Japan to premiere his latest work. Hol’s upcoming show will open at venues in Tokyo and Osaka, where audiences can catch his new stop-animation film, “Gay Squirrel and the Tail/Tale of the Cat on the Moon”. The film takes place in a closet and follows one squirrel on an adventure through a kitschy and nostalgically crafted universe. This is said to be Hol’s first artistic exploration into his own sexuality. Hol’s view that, “Being gay is something we are born as--and it makes us who we are,” is deftly reflected in this fantastic creation of a romantic, quirky, and clearly queer world. Don't miss it! 『天使の楽園』『天使の体温』の鈴木章浩監督が8年ぶりに監督・脚本・編集を手がけたオムニバス『ルナの子供』。本作は、小劇場やアングラ演劇界などで活躍する実力派キャストをそろえ、死を宣告された男と都会の片隅で触れ合う若い女を描く「彼女の物語」や、傷つくのを恐れて目の前の愛を受け入れられないレズビアンを描く「美月の物語」ほか全3編を紡ぐ。11/7（土）からUPLINK で2週間のみのイブニング＆レイトロードショー公開予定。鈴木監督のファンは足を運んでみては。 『ルナの子供』イブニング＆レイトロードショー ●2009年/日本/108分 Eight years after the release of his last film, the internationally received masterpiece “Tenshi no Rakuen” (Looking for an Angel), Japanese director Akihiro Suzuki returns with a brand new omnibus, "Luna no Kodomo" (Lunar Child) which he independently wrote, directed, and edited. Boasting a cast of prominent actors from Japanese underground theater, the film is broken into three separate dramatic narratives. "Her Story" explores the pain felt by a terminally ill man and a young runaway he finds in a stairwell, "Mizuki's Story" introduces a lesbian who refuses to allow herself to love out of fear of being hurt, and "Hikari's Story" touches on the internal struggles of a breadwinning wife and mother. "Lunar child" will be showing at Uplink Theater for two weeks starting Saturday, November 7th in evening and late shows. (Call the theater to see about English subtitles.) The NHK program "Haato O Tsunago (Heart-to-Heart)" has taken up a variety of issues, including a recent series on LGBTs, over the course of its three year run. A special two-part program on Gender Identity Disorder* will be broadcast November 2nd and 3rd on Fuji TV from 8:00pm to 8:29pm. Appearing in the program will be Fumino Sugiyama, a regular guest on “Haato O Tsunago” since it began addressing gender identity and LGBT issues. After filming the 5th installment of Haato O Tsunago’s series on Gender Identity Disorder* while studying abroad in England in 2005, the very popular Sugiyama traveled the world in a journey that included a stop in Thailand where he received chest reconstruction surgery before returning to Japan. This past summer he embarked on a new trip, this time meeting with other trans and trans-identified people across Japan. In this special two-part program, Sugiyama talks about changes in his life post-surgery and experiences he had meeting other trans people throughout Japan. In part two, broadcast on November 3rd, “Haato O Tsunago” will also introduce the story of a trans-identified youth, currently in middle school, that Sugiyama met. At the end of the program there will also be an interview with singer Yo Hitoto, whose latest music video release “Unto Shiawase (Tons of Happiness)” features LGBT guests from “Haato O Tsunago”. This is a special program you won’t want to miss!

10月31日（土）に、今年から神奈川県にある東洋英和女学院大学で活動をしている、多様な性とジェンダーを考えるサークル「かえでの虹」が4人のゲストを迎えてシンポジウムを開催。 ゲストには、今年の東京プライドでTokyo Wrestlingにもビデオメッセージをいただいた、日本で初めて性同一性障害者であることを公表の上で選挙に立候補し当選を果たした上川あやさん。TVドラマ「3年B組金八先生」で女優の上戸彩が演じた性同一性障害者の生徒モデルになった虎井まさ衛さん。そして、レズビアンとバイセクシュアルの女性のためのコミュニティ「LOUD」の代表の大江千束さんと副代表の小川葉子さんが登場。 「男女」という枠組みが強い社会において自分らしく生きにくい状況に直面することもあるなか、ゲストの4人はどのような生活を送ってきたのか。「学校・恋愛・社会」に焦点を当てて語ってもらう。 初の企画となる本イベントに、興味のある人は是非行ってみては！ 『みんな虹の下～レズビアンと性同一性障害者が語る～』 【問い合わせ】 The student group Kaede no Niji was formed earlier this year at the Kanagawa campus of Toyo Eiwa Women's University with the aim of exploring diversity in sexuality and gender. On Saturday, October 31st Kaede no Niji will be inviting four very special guests for its first symposium. The guests are: Setagaya assembly member (and Tokyo Pride Festival attendee) Aya Kamikawa, the first openly transgender candidate to seek elected office in Japan; Masae Torai, transgender activist and model for Aya Ueto’s popular character (Nao Tsurumoto, a young student struggling with Gender Identity Disorder) in the Japanese drama “3-Nen B-gumi Kinpachi Sensei”; as well as Chizuka Oe and Yoko Ogawa from the LOUD Community Space for Lesbian and Bisexual Women. Guests will discuss their own experiences living in a society where gender is highly polarized and living true to oneself becomes a challenge. Discussion will focus on “School, Love, and Society”.
