A few weeks ago I went to the US, to NYC, LA, and Palm Springs, during which time I managed many fabulous interviews! But before I start posting them, I'd like to share a bit about my time in Palm Springs.

Palm Springs is approximately three hours from Los Angeles by car, and home to a high-class resort. Also, as made famous by The L Word, it's where the Dinah Shore Weekend, the world's biggest lesbian event with over 10,000 attendees, is held. I went as your editor to report for TW.

Every year the event has gained breath-taking momentum, owing to appearances by The L word cast and many other high-profile personalities within the US lesbian scene - as well as the international gay media. This year's gathering was even more phenomenal than last year's.

On a personal level, I was thrilled to be able to meet - and reunite with - so many queer journalists from around the world.

Over the course of three days, I was able to catch up with friends from New York and LA - including designer and Our Chart fashion columnist Parisa Parnian, previously interviewed in TW, as well as make new friends in the field, such as journalists responsible for lesbian coverage in About.com and Planet Out.

The line-up for the event was spectacular - with the always-anticipated pool party and rocking band performances. With so much to see and do, everything there was an absolute blast...but my own favorite was the private press party organized by The L Word producer/creator Ilene Chaiken, who personally hand-picked about 10 media agencies to take part.

TW was delighted to receive an invitation to join and have a chance to mix with reporters working in the queer press, such as the Advocate and Velvetpark. Very merry moments were spent with some of The L word cast, including Rachel Shelley (Helena Peabody), Alexandra Hedison (Dylan Moreland), and Elizabeth Keener (Dawn Denbo) in addition to Ilene herself.

Rachel Shelley - known for her role as Helena Peabody since the show's second season - expressed tremendous interest in the Japanese lesbian scene after hearing that TW is a lesbian media resource from Japan. She also revealed that she had lived in Japan for half a year!

It had been two years since I last spoke with Ilene, but she was extremely friendly and responded to all my questions very thoughtfully.

On Saturday, BE Scene took the stage! For this event, fans of The L Word acted out parodies of their favorite scenes to be judged then and there by producer/ creator Ilene Chaiken and L Word actresses Katherine Moennig (Shane), Leisha Hailey (Alice), and Elizabeth Keener (Dawn Denbo, new from season 5).

Out actress Alexandra Hedison, who played Dylan in Season 4, was the host for the event. Partway through, Rachel Shelley (Helena) made a surprise appearance shocking and driving the audience wild!

There's so much more that I'd like to report, but I'm trying to keep this brief so I'll have to end here for today.

In my next post, I'll report a bit on LA and New York City!
