Hello, editor Asami here.

Last week, grande dame DJ Anita-san - who most of you know by her masterful mixing skills at the women’s only event Girl Friend and the electro-party fancyHIM - presented a special event “Female & Male, Freaks in Motel” at the stylish women’s bar Motel #203!!!

I thought I'd post something to share some of what went on with you. First of all, Motel #203 has already made a regular event of opening its doors to male guests every Thursday night. Since this past Thursday preceded a holiday, Anita-san decided to take the opportunity to transform the evening into a special event with a lush mix of guys and gals, complete with tantalizing DJs and hosts of all genders as well.

※The event was a roaring success with Motel #203 ladies and fancyHIM fashionista gentlemen packing the joint.

※GWNS, who had also been on hand for TW’s coverage of Patricia Field's time in Japan, was one of the event’s hostesses.

ilil director, Rachel (center) also DJ'ed at the party. New items are constantly making their way into the ilil shop, making it well worth each trip to check things out.

※DJ Peli kept herself busy with a double shift as bar staff and DJ.

Many guests at the party had just set foot in Motel #203 for the very first time, and from what I could tell - they're hooked on its cozy space with a hideaway feel. Next time you’re looking for something to do on Thursday, grab a guy and head on over!

Gianna Nannini

Hello everyone, chief editor Yuki here!
I wanted to give a bit more info on Gianna Nannini to follow up on my last post.

Italian singer-songwriter Gianna Nannini first rocketed to fame throughout Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Europe in the 1980s with hits that regularly rocked the Top 10 charts and sent album sales soaring past the one million mark. When I was a teenager living in Switzerland, her songs could always be heard on the radio. In 1990, she and another renowned Italian artist were tapped to perform the Official Song of FIFA World Cup. In 2006 her album "Grazie" became a top seller and the single "Sei nell'anima" scored the Number One spot on Italy's Hit Parade. She is to Italy what Yumi Matsutoya is to Japan. So it's nothing less that tremendous that someone of that caliber also has publicly come out as queer!

Gianna Nannini

Though the internationally adored Nannini is officially out as a bisexual, dyke women generally tend to see her as a lesbian owing to her own dykey flair.

When I saw her at the restaurant, she was around 50 and looking hot - as well as distinctly 'rock'. The somewhat tomboy-ish woman accompanying Nannini looked around 25 or 26 and had a fresh-looking, suave appeal to her. This was a few years back but my co-worker had told me that she often saw Nannini at NOBU with female company. I wasn't sure if they were a couple, but I was thrilled to see two fashionable queer women dining in NOBU's stylish ambiance; they represented all that is hip about belonging to the power lesbian stream in Milan!

Gianna Nannini

Incidentally, I'd like to add, if you ever have the chance to visit Milan, I highly recommend visiting NOBU. The fusion of Western and Japanese culinary styles makes for exquisite flavor, and the interior design to both the lounge on the 1st floor and the Sushi bar and the restaurant on the 2nd floor is breath-taking!

※The photograph at the top of this post is from the cover of "Vanity Fair", a fashion magazine known around the world for its feature portraits by the lesbian photographer, Annie Leibovitz. In this same issue, Leibovitz states in an interview, "I'm sick of people asking about my sexuality. I usually just tell them whatever I feel like saying at that moment." Looking to other sources one finds that, in an interview with a gay Italian web site, she identifies herself as bisexual--while in the Italian newspaper "Corriere della Sera", she also flatly refers to herself as "polysexual".

Hello everybody! Chief editor Yuki here.

Right now I'm in Milano, Italy following an assignment for work. Outside of TokyoWrestling I work as a freelance writer and PR consultant, and my freelance work is what has brought me to Europe this time.

Because I'm on assignment, it doesn't seem like I'll be able manage excursions for covering the Italian queer scene while I'm here, but I do plan to post information on some queer culture points that I pick up along the way!

Now, when speaking of famous queer figures in Italy, the first person that comes to mind is singer, songwriter and Famed Italian rocker - Gianna Nannini.

Gianna Nannini

Three years ago, until I started this website, I was working as an area manager and PR agent for an Italian fashion brand, which then brought me to Italy 4 or 5 times a year. While in Milano, I'd go out to eat with some of the people I worked with, and - one night - while at Armani/NOBU, the NOBU fusion restaurant in Armani's shop at Via Manzoni 31, she walked in.

A handsome woman wearing a checkered vest on a grey blouse - looking somewhat preppy, somewhat rock - caught my eye. And as I was unconsciously gazing her way, one of my co-workers noticed and said, "Hey, that woman with her is a famous rock star. She's gay too, so I suppose that must be her girlfriend."

Needless to say, the two of them had already registered on my gaydar. And as I was intently devouring what my co-worker was saying, I learned that THAT rocker was none other than Gianna Nannini!!!

I'll have to stop here for tonight, but I'll share more about Nannini in my next post!
